Social Network Analysis of TikiWiki

Blog post: Introducing WikiNetNav

Q and A: Is intensity of collaboration between community members important in the representation of the social network of an open source community?

Q and A: Isn’t it true that much communication takes place within open source communities using IRC or other methods that are not captured in the wiki or the mailing list?

Q and A: Do open source communities typically promote members into the core from within, or are stars transplanted from other projects?

Q and A: Can the WikiNetNav visualization tool that you demonstrated or social network analysis be used for locating providers of social services?

Q and A: Marc Laporte also mentioned that this kind of analysis could be incorporated into some kind of early warning system based on metrics, to warn of potential problem areas, e.g. not enough core members or knowledge brokers. This is something I’ve been thinking of too. It could be interesting.

  1. Sounds very interesting and similar to the research work that I’m doing. Your presentation is great, however I can’t hear the audio in a lot of the YouTube videos, is it like that?

When I first transcoded the videos from the original on my MacBook, they sounded OK, so I did not detect that the audio balance was way off (volume for the left channel is way too low). It was only after viewing them on my PC that I realized this. I will try and find some time to get to the bottom of this.
